An Introduction to Some Changes in our Worship Services

The Kirk Session has agreed to replace the monthly Prayers for the Sick Service (10.15am) with a Short Communion Service to be held immediately following the Morning Service on the last Sunday of the month (with the exception of the quarterly Communion months of March, June, September and December).

As this is a quarterly Communion month (June) the first Short Communion following a Morning Service will take place on the last Sunday in July. (The short monthly Communion has become a regular feature in the life and worship of congregations throughout our Presbyterian denomination)

This is what would happen: before the closing praise at the Morning Service, the Minister would intimate that those wishing to remain in church for the Short Communion should come forward at the end of the Service and occupy the front centre pews. The celebration of Communion would follow directly thereafter (lasting approx. 10 – 15 minutes)

Tea and coffee would be available as usual in the hall for those not wishing to participate in the Short Communion and it would remain available following the Short Communion.

The Short Communion Service will include intercessory prayers for health and healing, mentioning those in need who have requested that this be done.

The Kirk Session has further agreed the replacement of the quarterly Short Evening Communion Service (6.30pm) with a Health and Healing Service at 3.00pm

This Service will be conducted along the lines of the Service of Healing as set out in the Book of Common Order of the Church of Scotland.

In this we are reminded that “in the ministry of Christ, healing was central as a sign of the Kingdom. Our Lord commissioned his disciples to proclaim the Kingdom and heal the sick. The healing power of Christ is proclaimed in the regular acts of confession and intercession of the worshipping Church. At Holy Communion Christ stands among us in his risen and healing power, assuring us of the ultimate victory over suffering.

Hospital Visits

Please note that as hospitals are no longer in a position to furnish ministers or chaplains with patient lists it is imperative that the minister is informed of the name, date of admission and ward number of anyone wishing a pastoral visit.
